I don't like that you felt the need to explain yourself.
Marapets is yours and that was your coping mechanism. Humor about your own thoughts and demons.

I don't know why people get so worked up anyways, Marapets isn't one of the things that should be taken as offensive no matter the context cause it's a game, there are more "offensive" games out there and if you really get that offended by a game maybe you shouldn't be playing them? :grin:

i personally think the staff costume was handled well and applaud the staff for that. but for those who don't understand how some people are "so easily offended", try to understand that some mental health issues are heavily demonized. i personally live with one that is constantly portrayed as something only serial killers have. i hide that for my own safety.

culture doesn't exist in a vacuum. how these things are portrayed in media affects how people like me are seen in real life. some people don't like the reminder that that's how the real world sees them. try to have some compassion for people struggling with things you don't understand.

and i'll say it here again so i don't get attacked over it, i personally think the staff costume was handled well and applaud the staff for that.

I understand that Marapets is a passion project, but when you’re depicting severely mentally ill people to a wide audience, you have to expect people who suffer from those, and their family/friends/caretakers to not take it so lightly, especially with a costume showing straight jackets and muzzles. It’s a harmful stereotype from a time that saw these people as less human or animals, and abused them. When you essentially tell people that you don’t care what they think, and they should change their own feelings about its, that doesn’t really hold over well. It’s like keeping the skinny costume if you suffered with ED, but refusing to change it for your audience because they shouldn’t get triggered or have negative feelings about it; That they should just “Take a joke”. I know many, many good people who refuse to play or left this site because of these type of things, and it’s a real shame because I have always loved it, and want more real life friends to be involved. This is coming from someone who loves the art and design of it, however insensitive, but acknowledging the implications behind what you’re showing is also important.

Thank you to marapets staff for all the sacrifices you put into this site. It’s been part of half of my life now and it’s been nothing but a positive experience.

We can’t hide from everything that will offend us. Sometimes you just gotta put up and shut up. I’m getting a glimpse why the staff are going crazy now. Yikes..

I think this is a positive change and will help people with mental health challenges (or their loved ones) feel less stigmatized here on Marapets. We should only be applauding changes that make the site more inclusive and welcoming for all.

Given all that I’ve said, that def still won’t stop me from getting a cute Staff Oglue if an updated costume is released. Super psyched for the new art and changes coming!
