My account was hacked and I don't use it on another site. Nice to be made to feel like I did something wrong with my lack of responsibility. While I do appreciate the work to restore my things. This news post makes me feel pretty low so thanks.if my password was so bad then maybe I shouldn't have been allowed to make it

I have to chime in on all the negative posts on this matter.

How often do people read a newspaper, watch the news, or even read the news online, only to hear of some big bank or small website getting hacked, and stressing the importance of a secure password?
Daily? weekly at best.

Victim blaming? Maybe. But if you're not going to pay attention to the daily warnings about password securitym that are posted literally EVERYWHERE, it's you're own damn fault if your account gets hacked, not the sites or it's staff members.
You can't expect them to fix it all, because you ignore the "It's Hot" warning on the cup.

Marapets wasn't hacked. this time. It was the individual accounts that were, do to poor security. That is on the account owners for that, not the site.


Granted yes, I am concerned about what Shaggy posted earlier, about the number of times a person can fail to import the right password, and how long the wait is after exceeding it, but Ian could easily change those standards to make it harder on the sites end for password cracking. But it would still be up to the account owner to make sure their password is also secure enough so that crackers cant' figure it out in a limited number of tries as well.

read through all these comments & i feel like almost everything i was thinking has been said but just to add my two cents --

i had my account compromised and want to thank staff for responding to my emails/tickets so quickly and helping me restore almost everything.

that being said, this news post is at odds with the help i received - staff was nothing but kind and helpful to me, whereas this post made me feel really attacked. i agree my password wasn't the most secure (i believe i did indeed use the user/pw combo on the "other site" at some point) and that this whole ordeal has been a lot of work for staff, but i would argue that while it is unfair for staff to have to work on restoring accounts, it's also not fair to add insult to injury and publicly chastise people who just had to deal with their accounts being hacked.

the content of the message is fine & well noted but the tone could really use some work. i was pretty upset about the whole thing and this being the first thing i see when i can access my account again is disheartening and kind of makes me want to log right back off.

For me, it's how whom ever it is that wrote the update worded the text. It came off as non-empathetic and uncaring towards the customers/users of marapets. This could've gone a whole different way if more thought for said people in the wording had gone into play before being posted to the public.

I stay pretty quiet around here but I have to agree with those saying the post was blaming the victims. I don't understand how in future staff will know if we had an easy to guess password since I didn't think our passwords would be visible to them?

Have to agree with most people here. This news update, a week after everything happened, is just hardcore yikes. I get that you're all having a rough time, but try treating your paying customers and longtime players with a little more respect.

Kind of afraid to say that sometimes people can just get through or into your account anyway and sometimes it isn't the person's fault so negl little worried if it happens anyway in spite of attempts to safeguard. I'm sure it gets crazy busy to do stuff but just saying sometimes again it isn't the person's fault. Idk kind of paranoid. But the bday background has me excited so there's that!

@Shaggy i have always had that fear, so i used different passwords and usernames on different games, facebook and other things.

I would like to thank staff for all their hard work in sorting out this mess.
now The so called hacker did not even hack just used a simple password cracking program so hence the more secure strong encrypted you make your password the less likely this could happen again.
but bare in mind that any site and I mean ANY web site can be hacked because every website has a back door for security purposes so can be hacked there have been hacks on more secure sites then mara and some of these sites have military encryption in saying that even if your password was $%Y$^%&*%^&$%^PIUhjuo87Hjk it could still be hacked but less likely then if it was 12345qwerty all staff are trying to do is guide us in the right direction to help prevent a scripts kiddy from making a mess
