I had up hours earlier than I had planned on Monday. I took a long shower and washed my dark curly hair so thoroughly it could have fallen off. Then I dried it all and straightened it carefully after.
First I had to change into some slacks to go hunting and satisfy my thirst. I hadn't been in Forks that much therefore never been surrounded by hundreds of kids cramped in one building. Of course I had been out to different countries and states to go shopping with Aunt Alice but this time I was going to be alone and would have to resist by myself.
Jacob had slept on the couch the night before and came along with me to hunt (wolf form). We would make a game of who could find the biggest deer or elk. I naturally won.
After I satisfied my thirst I changed into black skinny jeans and leather boots, a white blouse and black jacket. I straitened my hair again and put on a bit of lip-gloss.
"Very sophisticated," Jacob commented when I came out. I stuck my tongue out at him and said goodbye to my parents as I left for my first day of school.
"Make sure you've got your cellphone," Bella called after me. I had put it in my black handbag for school.
I nodded at her and then got into my new car. I breathed in that new car smell whilst I put it on drive and buckled my seatbelt. The engine purred and drove smoothly down the road to Forks High School.
The sky was pale grey with only a hint of blue in it, an average day at Forks. It wasn't windy either so the scent of human blood wasn't very strong.
I knew the story of how my parents met and was told it was very dangerous. It had been my mother's first day starting at Forks High School. She had decided to live with Grandpa Charlie because her mom (Grandma Ren??e) had gotten remarried.
"I didn't really enjoy my first day that much," Bella had told me. "The school was much smaller than the High School I went to in Phoenix, so there were a lot of similar faces in all my classes. Every lesson someone would come up to me and introduce themselves and walk me to my next class. At lunch I sat next to a girl named Jessica and her friends. That was when I saw your dad."
Edward chuckled at this. "I think that was one of my favorite memories. I thought it was going to be an ordinary day, for me anyway. I sat down at the usual table with my brothers and sisters. Since we didn't eat there wasn't much to do so-"
"So he 'tuned in' to what everyone was thinking for something interesting," Bella interrupted raising an eyebrow at her husband. "Isn't that right?"
"Yes, I listened to what the students were thinking and then I heard someone say - or think - my name. It was like I was flicking through channels on tv and stopped when I found something interesting. It was Jessica who had thought it. She was sitting next to the most beautiful woman alive - apart from you Nessie." If mom could she would have blushed.
"I found it very odd that I couldn't hear what your mother was thinking," Edward continued, "and I started to get a little annoyed with myself. It was like she was on a different frequency. So I listened to what her friends thought to find out more about her.
"That was quite difficult and it didn't help that the boys at her table were practically drooling all over her." I giggled at this; my mom never seemed to be the type of person who liked to grab everyone's attention. Bella just rolled her eyes.
"I didn't like what some of the girls' were thinking either, most of them were very jealous that all the boys - including me - were staring. So then I decided to just listen to what your mother and Jessica were talking about. Not very hard if you're a vampire."
"How about I tell her the rest?" Bella half-snarled at Edward. No doubt she was embarrassed. "So I was.... intrigued by your dad and his family so I asked Jessica about them. She told me what you already know, that Carlisle and Esme 'adopted' them. After lunch I had Biology. There was only on empty seat-" she grinned "-next to a Mr. Edward Cullen. I was very lucky."
"Not that lucky since he wanted to drink your blood," Edward murmured quietly. Bella glared at him then carried on.
"He was weak at the time, very thirsty. He looked so furious and stiff when I sat next to him and never moved a muscle. I thought I had done something wrong because he stormed out of the classroom as soon as the bell went. He later tried to change classes."
"Good thing he wasn't successful," I commented. Bella and I grinned at each other and I saw the corner of Edward's mouth twitch.
"He even moved to Alaska for a few days to stay away but came back after a week or so. He finally talked to me in the next Bio lesson. 'Hello,' he had said and then introduced himself. Of course he already knew my name but asked anyway. It was quite awkward.
"We just had to identify the stages of mitosis and we both had already covered it so it was easy and we finished first. Lots of time for talking so he commented on the snow. He then asked why I moved which completely took me off guard. No one had asked me that. I answered in short answers so he kept asking more questions."
"She was very interesting and unique," Edward said sweetly. "That's why I fell in love with her."
I found their story so romantic but yet so weird - a vampire falling in love with a human? Of course weirder things had happened like a half-human half-vampire falling in love with a werewolf.
I focused on my driving and realized I had just past the school. "Damn," I cussed. It was a good thing I was quite early.
I circled again and parked at the front of the school along with the other cars that belonged to students. I quickly but gracefully rushed out in case I was late.
"Nice car," a boy said. He had jet black hair cut spiky like Jacob but had dark olive skin.
"Thanks," I said to him as I walked towards the front office When I got in I was greeted by the red-headed receptionist. I knew straight away that her name was Mrs. Cope because she was the same woman who greeted Bella on her first day. Aw crap, this meant she would recognize my face and surname.
"Just stick to the plan," my father's voice rang in my head. "Esme and Carlisle foster you because you are Carlisle's niece. Your parents' names are Lia and Adam Cullen and they both died in a car crash 6 years ago when you were 10. You have been in care ever since. Emmett, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper are all at university. So is your mother and I but we visit regularly."
"Is anyone going to ask me about all that?" I had asked him before. He smiled and told me that these kids all grew up together so they would be curious about the new kid.
Mrs. Cope's eyes widened when I walked closer to her. Obviously remembering an old face. She tried to hide her shock by smiling at me sweetly.
"I'm Renesmee Carlie Cullen," I told her. The shock was back and all over her face.
"Are you related to Dr Cullen by any chance?" she asked suspiciously.
"Yes," I answered smoothly. "He is my uncle." She nodded but still she looked confused. Edward was right when he said they'd be curious but I had no idea the teachers would be as well. Mrs. Cope rummaged through the filed on her desk and carefully pulled one out.
"Here you are, honey," she said handing them to me. "There is your locker combination and number, schedule and a map of the school." She pointed out on the map the best route to some of my classes. She also handed me a slip that I had to get each teacher to sign and I was to bring it back at the end of the day.
She looked uncertainly at me whilst she said goodbye but I simply ignored it and left the office.
I entered one of the buildings with the number 4 painted at the side. I glanced at my map then went into one of the classrooms. I was relieved to find out I was in the right English room.
I gave the slip to the petite grey-headed teacher at the front to sign. She gaped at the name but signed it quickly and pointed out an empty seat at the back next to the same boy in the parking lot.
"Hey there," he said. "We met earlier on. I'm Ryan Green."
"I'm Renesmee Cullen," I replied.
"Nice to meet you. I didn't know there was going to be a new kid coming."
I let out a quiet sigh in relief; hopefully the other students wouldn???t know my last name either.
"Yeah, um, it was kind of a last minute thing," I replied. He couldn't reply back as the teacher started talking.
"For those of you who don't know we are studying Romeo and Juliet this term," she said. "Now Romeo and Juliet...."
She droned on for the rest of the lesson about what Edward had already taught me. After it was Chemistry and, what do you know, Ryan sat next to me then too.
After a few hours it was lunch. A girl in my Algebra class named Nina had asked me to come sit at her table. I grabbed a box of French fries and a drink and looked around for her familiar blonde her. Sure enough she was at the same table a Ryan. She waved at me to come over and I reluctantly obeyed.
"Everyone this is Renesmee," Jennifer introduced me to her friends. They all nodded and smiled at me. I noticed a few of the boy's jaws drop at the sight of me and a girl, I remembered saying her name was Linda, rolled her eyes.
I sat in between Ryan and Nina whilst she asked me thousands of superficial questions like how I looked so tan (Rosalie sprayed tanned my whole body, now if the sun shines on me I don't sparkle) and where I got my bag and clothes and what was my favorite color.
I tried to answer as truthfully but it was very awkward with the boys hanging on my every word.
"What kind of music do you like?" Nina asked.
"Umm... I quite like classical, but indie and rock as well," I answered.
"Really?" A boy with long blonde hair - I remembered his name to be Tom - spoke for the first time. He was very muscular and from his voice you could tell he was arrogant. "You know my band play rock and heavy metal. We're called 'The Jocks' and we're playing this Friday at Western???s Caf??. Do you wanna come?"
Linda leaned into the table to hear my answer, her face in horror. I didn't need to read minds to know what she was thinking.
"Sorry, I can't," I told him. "I'm going to my friend's birthday party." This was no lie; Bella had her birthday on Wednesday but we were to celebrate it on Friday instead. If she was human she would be turning 25.
"I thought you were new to Forks?" Linda said, more of an accusation than a question.
"I didn't say that, did I?" I pointed out. "My cousins went to Forks High School too but graduated years ago. They still live close by and I'm going to their birthday party."
"Oh," Linda said lamely, her cheeks flushed red.
"So, um, are you thinking of joining any clubs?" Ryan asked changing the subject. I smiled at him appreciatively.
"If any of them seem interesting," I said. "Have you joined any?"
"Yeah, the orchestra. It may sound lame but it's quite fun. I play the drums."
"Really?" this caught my interest. "I play the guitar."
"If you want I can sign you up for it," Ryan said eagerly. I grinned and nodded in reply. Linda looked disgusted.
