[b]July 12-Mary Morello Passes Away At 102[b]
On July 12, 2026, Mary Morello passed away. Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello???s mother had spent her whole life as a strong activist, educator and humanitarian. Back in 2021, he wrote a New York Times article providing an overview of her life and contributions:
???In the 1940s, she helped raise war bonds to defeat the fascists in World War II.
In the 1950s, she taught international students at Northern Illinois University and opposed racist Jim Crow laws, and as a single woman with modest means she???s traveled to over 60 countries.
In the 1960s, she aided anticolonial movements while living in Africa.
In the 1970s, she was a radical teacher in a conservative high school inspiring students to challenge the system, and aided the United Farm Workers and the Urban League.
In the 1980s, she went on nine peace missions to the Soviet Union and Cuba.
In the 1990s, she opposed the Persian Gulf war and founded an international organization to oppose music censorship called Parents For Rock And Rap, which landed her on 'Oprah' and CNN.
In the 2000s, she helped homeless people and recovering addicts get their high school diplomas at the Salvation Army in Waukegan, Illinois, and marched in Chicago against wars for oil.
In the 2010s, she volunteered at local soup kitchens in Los Angeles.???
Many commented on the instagram post announcing her passing, including Serj Tankian, Eddie Trunk, Metallica, Jack Black, Shirley Manson, Nikki Sixx, Frank Bello, Peter Frampton, Boots Riley, Frank Iero, Slash, Matt Sorum, Dropkick Murphys, John 5, Vicky Cornell and many more who all shared their condolences.
July 11-25th Anniversary of Lars???s Napster Testimony
On this day in 2000, Lars Ulrich, representing Metallica, appeared before the U.S. Senate to testify against ex-music streaming service Napster. They had been illegally distributing music and leaked the unreleased I Disappear demo intended to be later used in Mission: Impossible 2. The manner in which Ulrich testified and how Metallica went about the process made the event seem like a cash-grab. NetPD, a firm hired by Metallica, released a massive list of IP addresses of Napster users including their fans. As a result, over 300,000 users were banned and many were enraged. In Metallica???s documentary Some Kind of Monster, clips were shown of fans stomping on CDs, vinyls and other merchandise in various locations during the Napster boycott protests. Lars???s testimony can be found on c-span.org. The testimony and general situation was the ultimate pivotal event that turned much of Metallica???s fanbase and public view against Lars.

Formed in 1981 with the only main change in lineup being the bassist after Cliff Burton’s death in 1986, Metallica has become and still is the biggest and one of the most influential metal bands to date.

July 7-Reload Becomes A Bestseller 30 Years After Its Release, Metallica Back In Top 10
Nearly 30 years after its release, Metallica’s 7th studio album Reload became a top 10 bestseller around the world following the release of the Reload Remastered Deluxe Box Set on June 26th. It also debuted/returned at the top 10 in multiple charts, peaking at number 1 on the Billboard 200 where it remains at 16th place as of July 10.
July 8-Profile Picture Change
Today, Metallica changed their YouTube picture from a photo of the band on a gray background to a blurred one of the band on a red background resembling pictures from the 72 Seasons music video photoshoots. Similarly, earlier in mid-June, Metallica changed their profile pictures on most of their socials from the striking yellow of the 72 Seasons theme to a sleek gray, sparking intense fan discussion and speculation about the implications of the change. Metallica responded with, ???It???s nothing, folks. Just a little refresh of the socials.??? But some fans still argue about the potential deeper meaning behind the change, speculating about a new album or release. Could these events simply signify the end of the M72 tour and era, or could they be teasing something new to come?

July 5th was also the first anniversary of Back To The Beginning, a benefit concert by Black Sabbath-who Metallica paid tribute to when Kirk & Rob performed a cover of their Electric Funeral.
July 3-Suga From BTS Attends Metallica Concert
Suga (Min Yoongi) from the K-Pop group BTS attended Metallica’s July 3 concert at London Stadium in London, England. He posted a video at the concert in a VIP section and a photo of him holding a guitar pick on his Instagram story.
July 2-AWMH Grants $100K To Venezuela After Earthquakes Shake The Country
On June 24, Venezuela was hit with devastating earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 to 7.5, over 600 aftershocks continuing to destroy affected areas. Over 68,000 people were reported missing, and about 60,000 buildings were either damaged or completely wrecked. As rescue operations continue, All Within My Hands has granted $100,000 to support disaster relief through Direct Relief.
June 29-MSI Expands Its Reach
Metallica Scholars Initiative(MSI), part of the All Within My Hands (AWMH) charity foundation, established its largest grant yet of over 3.3 million dollars to support colleges in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges(AACC). With an added 18 schools, MSI now supports 93 community colleges across all 50 states and Guam. AWMH is also launching its first international grant of $250,000 to secure MSI’s foothold in the UK with Capital City College group, or CCC.
June 26-Reload Remastered Is Out!
After its release on November 18, 1997, 29 years later, the long-awaited Reload Remastered Deluxe Box Set was finally released, including exclusive CDs, books, prints, picks, and public remasters and never-heard-before demos/mixes. Lyric videos to many of the songs on the album were also published.
