15th Jun 2009 20:41 Story! This is a short story thingy. It's not done though...
A river flowed through the forest, a shimmer of blue in the light of the sun. It surged around bends and splashed against the rocks that were sticking out in its wake. A leaf dropped from an oak tree, lightly riding the wind on its downward flight. The leaf wobbled and jerked in the wind and came to rest in the river. The large body of water carried the leaf around sharp turns and around the stones. Finally, the oak leaf came to rest at the paws of a grey cat.
Shadowedpool the cat looked intently at the battered leaf through sapphire eyes. She scooped up the leaf with a small paw. The leaf flew out of the water propelled by Shadowedpool???s paw. Drips of water pooled off the leaf and back into the river where they had started. Shadowedpool mewed happily as she looked at the wet shinning leaf on the ground in front of her. She gave the leaf one more look and then headed back for camp. Her eyes sparkled in the bright sunlight.
The sun was high in the sapphire sky, a bright yellow sphere in a sea of dull blue. A green butterfly flew low in the sky outlined by golden sunlight. Shadowedpool sighed, looking around, this was a beautiful forest but she sensed something dark was happening, through all that lovely sunlight, butterflies and blossoming flowers was a dark presence. The she-cat knew something was out of place. The forest looked perfect, yes, indeed it did. But under that hood of beauty was something sinister. It was hiding out there just waiting to strike the unprotected.
A wind blew in and riffled through Shadowedpool???s pelt making it fluff up to twice its size. Two birds circled above her squawking as they chased each other out of sight. Shadowedpool willed herself to relax. She walked onward through the forest. The cat stopped. She had heard something. The hair on the back of her neck lifted slightly. A small hiss came from her drawn back lips. Something was out there. Shadowedpool tilted her head upward and breathed in deep. A scent she had never smelled the like of before wafted in the air. Shadowedpool???s fur puffed up as she gazed around, her blue eyes burning into everything.
A hawk screeched nearby bringing Shadowedpool out of her trance. She twisted her head toward the sound. The hawk was perched on a branch right beside her. Its ghostly eyes blazed into the she-cat. Shadowedpool shuddered as her heart thumped against her rib cage. The hawk screeched two ominous words, ???Leave now.??? And with a flurry of blacken feather the thing was gone. Shadowedpool stood frozen her breath coming in ragged gasps. The two words hung in the air long after the ghostly hawk had departed.
