Once Upon a Time, We Saw the End of the World...

31st Jan 2019 19:44 "Everything approaches so fast.."
"No time to think at all?"
"None."
"I wish for a day of rest once..."
"Impossible!"
Lighthearted bickering, smiles that showed no signs of life. They seemed so lively, yet at the same time, they were equal to moving corpses. The undead living, only seen through the gates that closed them inside, away from the rest of us.
We wore masks unless asleep, they only did when outside the fences that gave them privacy. It was a mystery to us, the way they lived so lifelessly. What was the point, living like that?
We all yearned for the day we would become apart of that elite four-member team. But as many of us aged, moved on, they never changed, always laughing together, without any emotion.
What exactly made them this way?

I sighed. "This day is so quiet, I wish something would happen."
"Nothing ever happens anyways," the boy next to me replied. His face donned a mask with a silver pattern of a Whale, similar to mine of a Bear.
"If only!" I laughed. "What's the point of standing around? Her Majesty only ever uses Those four anyways, we're just fodder at this point."
We both looked towards the tall metal gates, surrounding a large white home. It looked out of place, the surrounding plants overgrown and dying.
"They get such special treatment, it's unfair to the rest of us." Whale said.
All of us lesser masked soldiers thought the same. What exactly was so different between the four of the 'elites' and us?
"What's different, I wonder?" Another voice mockingly said behind us, startling the both of us.
Her mask had a gold Deer face engraved, with matching antlers poking out of the top.
"Sor- sorry, I mean, uh.." I sputtered. Whale went completely silent.
"You're a bear?" the Deer asked. "Lame~ Didn't know we had a bear now! How long have you been here for?" She twirled to the front of us, stopping and posing in a cutesy manner.
"For... um... about two years?" I muttered.
"And you, Mister Whale?"
Whale jolted back to reality from his shock, standing up straight. "Two years as well, ma'am!"
Deer faced towards Whale, perplexed, before bursting out in fake laughter. "No ma'am, please, I'm not that old! Or am I?" She re-adjusted the scarf she was wearing, despite it being a rather warm day. "Oh, well, I didn't know you weren't su~uper new! But, whatever, the dumb Rabbit is calling for me anyways~" She turned suddenly and trotted towards the gate entrance, and disappeared into the foliage inside.
