A Look At Evllyn's Life;
The sunlight surrenders to the moon's call,
As the animals calm, and sleep soon falls,
But amongst the slumber, one is still awake,
Casting a steady eye upon the live's at stake.
She warns the mice as the snake approaches,
Calls for movement from the weary co ckroaches,
She is their protector, their life, their one chance to live,
As she worries for them all, her heart urging to give.
Yet as the night turns to day, and the sun wakes once more,
She settles in the shadows, in the large forest's core,
For there is no need for her now, in the morning light,
So she drifts to sleep, for her duty at night.
Err... probably doesn't make too much sense, sorry about that. Basically I was going for a forest protector image =]
This is also sort of like a prologue for the story;
As the sunlight filtered through the maze of branches overhead a creature was seen resting in the centre of a forest clearing, the newborn cries of the birds testing their melodies with the silence. They soon died down as the sapphire feathered mother came back to feed them, surrendering the worm she had found before flying off once again, leaving her young to feast upon the meal. It was only a few seconds before she left that the cries began again, causing the creature to open one eye to wearily stare upwards at the nest above.
'Ever dependent..' The doe thought as she pushed herself to her feet with one graceful motion, the crown of jade leaves shaking merrily as she appeared to search the ground for something. She must not have found it as she shook her head in dismay and looked wearily back at the three young chicks huddled close together, their beaks opened wide to chirp a beckoning unison for their mother- or for more food. But she wasn't going to come; not for a long time anyway, so the animal decided to do something about it.
Since there was no food suitable for the young on the floor she cast her gaze upon the leafy collar she adorned around her neck, her warm eyes soon attracted to the cluster of berries dangling from them like a bell upon a cat's collar. She craned her neck and was just able to pluck them off with her teeth before walking calmly to the nest containing the chicks and dropping it inside, watching them with a smile flickering upon her face as they gorged themselves before returning to her spot within the centre.
With her silence finally returned she dropped gracefully to the ground, her legs tucked up against her as she rested her head upon the earth, once again falling into the comfort of her dreams.
