Jake's Story
15 years, 10 months & 20 days ago
3rd Jan 2009 08:28 During the summer of 2008, on a Monday, was the last day I say that cute fluffy face. I left for Summer Camp, so I wasn't there when the tragedy happened. I had just finished walking him before I left.
It began thundering not to much later in the day. Like most dogs, he did not like thunder. He would try to escape from the yard when it thundered. We would have to tie him up whenever there were large noises that scared him, because some of the neighbors were afraid of the large German Shepard. It was a long leash, giving him plenty of room to take shelter in the doghouse.
As he tried to escape, he wrapped himself around the pole holding the leash and the old swingset. No matter how tight the leash became, he kept trying to escape. Eventually, he was so wrapped up, he became suspended in the air. The leash was wrapped around his neck, cutting off the circulation. And he, well you know, too sad for me to say it.
He ended up buried in the backyard. We planted flowers on the grave.
In memory of Jake, I'm starting a fund to turn Jakex into a rusty. All donations, no matter how small, will help me reach my goal.
