I have just read a topic where a new member has been politely reinforcing rules.
Unfortunately, this person was then harrassed by at least 2 older members. Their reasons for doing so were;

1. She had gotten one rule wrong.
2. Apparently the topic was 'pointless'.

I find it very saddening that new members who are trying their best to find their way round a new site, and meet friendly members, meet two well-known older members who do their best to make her feel un-welcome.

If the simple mistake was made, then the older members should be there to /kindly/ point out the mistake. Not start a forum-fight, where the forum-starter even asked them to leave. They did not.

Unfortunately, when a player is well-known, people take their side as they don't want to be seen disagreeing with an older member. This means that the new members are put down by many people rallying against them.
I call this Bullying.
And it shouldn't happen.

New members are not sure how to act in forums, so it is acceptable to let them make mistakes and make so-called 'Pointless' topics.

However, this topic about the rules of Mara was not pointless and was well within her rights to post it.

Thanks, just expressing my opinion.

  • Cherripie 0 Cherripie-Agrees- It's unfair that younger members are not permitted to make simple mistakes with out being shouted at. Where as I often see older members blatantly ignoring the rules and getting no reprimand from this. If they do get told by other members they are shouted down. It's time these people realised that the rules apply to everyone, there should be no exception for the older members. I'm not going to point the finger and blame anyone, especially as I am aware that staff are swamped. More over, it should not have to be up to staff to sort this sort of thing out. As members, we should not let others get away with bullying to other members. We need to take it upon ourselves to do some thing about this. Having experienced bullying in real life I am fully aware of how upsetting it can be, and I would hate to have to experience it here. A lot of people are complaining about how Mara is changing for the worse, and complaining about new members. Perhaps it is time that they realise that it's up to us to help new members so that they don't annoy people. Next time some one makes a mistake simply correct them gently. If they do it again, then, and only then, do you have reason to get annoyed with them.

  • Angrybunny 0 AngrybunnyTotally agree. People do take ides, they feel as if they betrayed the older member, like they could end up being bullied as well. I've definately had that. I was trying to get a chibs for my borthers memory, and someone just said. `Liar.` Then people stopped upporting me and turned against me. `Liar. ------------- yh i no!` I hate it.
