Dearest Journal,
Today is September 11, 2015. The day started out as any other day at the shelter, all the other races coming and going with their sponsors. I was the only one who was different...plain...ordinary, which made me unwanted by any potential parents. So yet, another day of sitting at the window watching adoptees come and go all dressed up and pretty and feeling very hopeless. I was about to get up and head to my room when the unexpected happened.

As I looked out through the pane of glass hidden by the shadows of the curtains an animal I had never seen before came walking up carrying a human just as odd as itself. The human seemed to possess the ability to switch between male and female at will. So many different faces showing through one face. Not that anyone else could see it. To them this person would look like any other single being. But with my gift of seeing and knowing pure truth from lie...could see what others could not.

Today, she was a woman so beautiful and unique. Within she was purely Elven, even if on the outside people only see the human. Her hair as silver as the moonlight with her eyes matching perfectly. She wore a tight white corset trimmed in black. Her pants were as tight fitting as the corset also trimmed in black. As she walked the end rose up just enough to see she was wearing black ankle boots that zipped on the side. There was something mysterious about this woman, as she walked a white mist or aura seemed you swirl around her.

Her moves were ever so graceful as she came down from the strange animal and walked up the walk way to the door. By now the others living here had gathered in the main room staring at the odd creature that she had arrived on. But, as she entered she paid them no mind. The human behind the counter greeted her with a smile and they exchanged word, then it happened...the inspection call. The sound I always dread answering to, knowing that no one will ever see me. The others push and shove me out of the way, as if I was the runt of an unusual littler. And just as always, I end up at the end of the inspection line.

The woman looked around at all of us gathered together. She walked slowly down the line, now and then stroking the head of some of us. I knew I would not be one of them praised and touched. Oh how much I dreamed of being wanted by someone or admired, even if just for an instant.

Unlike others, she had worked her way down the line to being at the pet just in front of me. This was so unusual as by now usually the prettiest was picked or the strongest or the smartest. But yet, she had picked none. Now here she was, just in front of me, I knew I could never be what others would want. Without thought my head lowered slowly towards the floor as I could feel the last of my hope dying out.

The woman kneels down in front of where I stood. She took her light colored fingers and placed them under my chin and raised my head to where our eyes could meet and she smiled. Her words were soft and gentle as she said to me, "So you are the little one I felt as I rode by. Such a sad soul in one so beautiful." Then she reached out both her arms and picked me up in hers and looked to the lady at the counter and said, "I shall take this one!"

I could not believe what I was hearing. She wanted me, she really wanted me out of all the others...someone wanted me! Then she nuzzled her face into my fur and against my head as the white mist around her moved over me. For an instant, I froze as fear rose up in me. Her voice was stronger then my fear as the gentle tones spoke, "Be at ease, young one, you are safe."

I watched as the mist swirled around me and in that instant I changed to the most beautiful Dragon Tantua ever seen. And just before she turned to head back to the door she spoke one last thing to me, "I shall name you Shadobaby and I am called Elvina," as she pulled me closer cradled in her arms and we headed out the door and back to her strange animal which she called a battle steed.

At last, my dream was made real, by one as unique and mysterious as I had ever dreamed of.
