Harry Potter vs. Twilight..is there really a competition?

WARNING:
The following blog is written using MY PERSONAL OPINION. It also has snippets from different boards, that really spoke to me. Each post that is not mine is credited to the specific person.

Are we even discussing this?
Harry Potter, without a doubt.
I mean, the first time I read twilight I liked it, but then I read it again and realised its POINTLESS plot (a vampire with his vampire family who all sparkle, feed on animals, and cause trouble for humans), its characters that, like someone said, lack CHARACTER, and the horribly written book in itself.
Harry Potter, on the other hand, is written exceptionally well, has well developed characters that each have a unique and explicit personality, and has an amazing plot that develops and unfolds, with amazing twists and turns, and the more you read, the more you see how everything folds in together to make one, amazing, final result.

Have you noticed that Bella's ONLY skills include cooking and household work? (Oh, and attracting boys...and deflecting vampire powers but that includes no effort in any way, shape or form.)
Hermione is the smartest girl in her year, even though she's 'muggle born'
Let's see girls, which one would you want to be more alike? Surprisingly, most choose the first one. Which is just appalling to me.
HP all the way. (Written by;; Faeh)

However, if I did have to choose, I would say Harry Potter. There's no competition. Harry Potter's much more well-written, and I hate how SM portrays Bella as someone who always has to depend on Edward for saving and protection. (aquapower12, aka Sphinks)

me and my boyfriend ( and our friends) we all really dislike twilight ( no offense) so anyway we decided to dress up like people from harry potter and go to the new twilight movie..
after they showed that Edward dude we all stood up and one of us pointed at the scree and said " Cedric is a live!! we must go tell Dumbldoor(how ever it is spelled)"
then we all ran out of the theater with out hats and brooms (Kasie666)
^^ LMFAO I HAVE to try that. lolol.

After reading both Harry Potter and Twilight, I have noticed a huge difference between the books, obviously noticeable why Harry Potter is inevitably better : STEPHANIE MEYER PLEASED THE READERS. J. K. ROWLING DIDN'T GIVE A S*** WHAT YOU THOUGHT, SHE WROTE THE BOOKS THE WAY SHE WANTED. (Libertychick13)
^^Seriously, that is so well said.
--~/A/~--
I liked Twilight the first time I read it.
When I read it again I was like "WTH?" ( optymizer)
^^ I was like that too.
--~/A/~--
*sigh* I'm going to quote Stephen King here: "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good." <-- my thoughts exactly
HP FTW (Drag0ness)
^^ my thoughts exactly, too.

Harry Potter.
Twilight has NO characters

^^Put very well.

HARRY POTTER - just a book, or something more?

Im in University.
I dont have alot of time to read during the school year.
Now I have like, a 4 month summer break.
So I decided to look through the books that I read through my childhood, and some that I didnt even crack open.
I've got my Sophie Kinsella,my House of Night, Eragon, Dragon Rider, joke books and all that.
I was looking through the library in my house, and then I found what i was looking for - my Harry Potter books.
I read them. I didnt have alot of free time, it took me more or less 3 weeks to finish the whole series. I found myself - a 20 year old - laughing in the funny parts, CRYING in the dying parts, and secretly cheering and whooping at the successful parts. I then realised how beautiful books are, and they arent all books that you have to study.
I now appreciate the art of well-written books.
Especially Harry Potter. When I think about it, I realise all the interlocking and folding parts that go together. I wont say, for the sake of spoilers, but its such an amazing book. I cant even explain it in words, it is a timeless piece that should go down in history with books like Alice in Wonderland, Heidi, Anna Karenina, (though thats more advanced), and more. Now stuff like Twilight that only please the simple minded and stereotypical teenagers.
Ahh, the art of good books. (: How I have missed thee.
Thank you, Jo Rowling, for once again opening my eyes and letting me be a child again, and letting me grow up with Harry all over again. (:

Couldn't have said it better myself.
But I am going to try anyway.
J.K Rowling is an amazing author who invented ingenious plots and characters that are going to be remembered for years to come. *cough Draco cough*
She has made her series one that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. When my sister was only eight, she got the first four books, read them all quickly, understood them all, and most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed them. My nan recently read the first book and I caught her giggling every once in a while.
I think it is safe to say that Harry Potter will definetely be remembered as one of the most amazing series in the world. In a hundred years of so from now, people will still be reading these books because of how intriguing they are.
Nope, didn't say it better, but I think I got my point across. (: (Keibranch)

I loved how the writing matured with every book, and how I grew up reading them and maturing with it. It's truly amazing how she can create a book and turn it into something that will stay with you for the rest of your life - I have no other words to explain it but I feel as if I can be transported into a different world and so engrossed in it I forget where I am. It's so sad and genuine and emotional and heart warming and the people who assume it is just for children are sorely mistaken. To anyone who hasn't read it, well, do. (puppypower321)

Im obsessed now. I was watching TV one night and HP3 came on, I fell in love. It was such an amazing movie that it dragged me on to read the books, which were 10x more amazing. I now have most of the Harry Potter collection from noblecollection.com, people call me weird but I don't really give a damn. (VioletBlack123)

I love the way that there are the most random, small points mentioned in the first couple of books, and Jo refers to them again in later books.
It just shows how much thought is put into the books. (HollieDolliex123)

I'm rereading them again, it's been years.
She really is an amazing author, and you can see in the writing how people of ALL ages can appreciate it. (Faeh)

If you could actually do a spell in real life, which spell would you choose to be able to do?
_______________________________
So many!
Legilimens, because I would love to see whats in the mind of my memories.
Levicorpus/Wingardium Leviosa, great for pranks and for enemies..
Crucio, for enemies..gosh.
All those healing spells.
Accio would be soooo helpful, I cannot even explain.
Sonorus, for one no one is listening to me and I can make my voice really loud.
Imperio would be good when Im too lazy and can get someone to do my dirty work for me.
Expecto Patronum, just so I can see what animal mine would be. (:

Nineteen years later. Are you happy how it turned out, or do you wish something was different, ie Neville married Luna.
__________________________________
At first read, I was like, why didnt Harry marry Hermione? But upon second reading, I realised Ginny is totallyyyy better. And Hermione should've married Draco, and Ron stay a bachelor. Yeah, it was really short and didnt answer alot of questions, but I guess that was sort of the purpose, you know? To let you manipulate the ending to the way you want it to. So then, even though its not set in stone, I can make the ending whatever I want it to be.

Any particular scene(s) you wished would have been put in the movie(s), but wasn???t?

Not much that wasnt put IN the movies, except maybe the quidditch game and the sphinx, but, like others, I hate all the extra craaap that was put in.

Would you rather own the Invisibility Cloak, The Resurrection Stone or The Elder Wand?
__________________________________
The Cloak.
I feel like Harry when it comes to the wand, why need it when you have another one which works just as well but is more sentimental? Also, I would probably flaunt it around like an idiot and get myself killed.
And the resurrection stone, well, the dead people wouldnt really be there for you, would they? They would be miserable. I mean, for a little while it would be ok, if a loved one died...but I wouldnt want to end up like the second brother.
So in conclusion, Invisibility cloak please.

What affect has Harry Potter made on your life and how much does it mean to you?

Some answers people gave:
Juicyjuicebox- Harry Potter has made my life infinitely better and J. K. Rowling is a goddess.
Inferior- Harry Potter has made me think that everything is possible. (even defeating the most hated dark wizard of all time)
ThatPersonOverThere- You have to give everything a chance.
ILoveSodaPopCurtis12- Harry Potter taught me words. Harry Potter taught me the difference between good and evil
Hariyn- I grew up with it. It's a universe too dear to me; I can no longer treat them just like books, as with everything else. It's a magnificent place to which I can escape, where everything is just so marvellous, even the grief and the difficulties are dealt with so thoroughly and eloquently... I can't explain how much it means to me. <3
Tsaram- Harry Potter has opened me to the world of writing. Harry Potter made my desire towards writing increase every time I read it, because if my idol (Rowling) can do it then I will try until I captivate my readers like her. :] She's the reason my profession will be journalism and authorism.
That's how Harry Potter has impacted my lifel
Faeh- Harry Potter was one of the first major fantasy books that I got my hands on. (my favorite subject) and it has made me wish dearly that my plain school could suddenly transform into a magical castle =x
And mine??? Harry Potter has made me realize that everything is possible with effort, and getting in trouble doesn't always mean you aren't doing something. JK Rowling is a goddess, who has a gift. She gave me the pleasure of growing up with Harry Potter. He learnt me so many lessons, little lessons, big ones, morals, and all.
So how about you???Can you answer these questions?
