Was Marapets down for a bit for just me, or for everybody? Maybe Ian's trying to fix the server errors. Good-luck Ian if you are. Or maybe the other servers are just starting to error as well.
0rent555Let's hope it's Ian trying to fix it without breaking something else in the process. If not, hopefully it's not a sign that it'll go down for longer in a bit.
28NalkariaI'm worried, I was talking to Ian yesterday when they first went down. I left him alone so he could deal with it, and a few hours later he seemed a bit distressed. And I haven't seen him since. I hope nothing bad is going to happen D:
28NalkariaI pointed out to him that the forums were down before he noticed. He said that things just crash sometimes and that he was gonna try to fix it. I assumed it would be up pretty quick, because he didn't seem too worried at the time. 'Bout two hours later, he told me they were still broken, and we didn't say anything to eachother after that. I figured that if I asked when they'd be fixed, that he'd just say he didn't know. I didn't want to distract him. But he's been gone, what, 24 hours now? Does he need to be logged in to work on the site? He hasn't been on Skype either.
0rent555I think so too. First something really went wrong with the pound, then it seems like the marasites servers had some issues. Now there's the forums and the site crashed for a bit. I think it's a sign that the servers aren't going to last much longer without full maintenance or replacement.
28NalkariaDoes he have any other coders on his team? He must be able to get help from someone. I'd be okay with Mara going down for a while as long as it was being worked on and he made sure we knew that. It'd really stink if stuff just kept getting worse until it crashed without us knowing and then having to re-code it and possibly losing lots of player info. Imagine losing a whole month's worth of stuff, or worse.
0rent555If Marapets has things like a server room, which business like this should have, then when one server crashes it would transfer the data to another server. Server rooms have multiple power sources and internet providers, so if one internet provider goes down, or if the power goes out, it's safe. Though if one whole server room goes out, Ian could transfer control of that area to another server room or base because server rooms are making backups all the time.
28NalkariaWould that explain that tiny downtime just now? One server crashed, and another one kicked in? I think Mara's servers are overseas, I don't know if that'd affect anything or not.
0rent555No, that's a good thing and generally what businesses do. Say if you have a giant building full of servers, and the power gets knocked out. You have another provider, but if for some reason both are knocked out in the building. 24/7 servers are always making backups on other servers. The backup never ends, because they always do it. When one server room goes out, since the data is on other servers, Ian could transfer control of that area to the other servers.
28NalkariaSure thing c: Hopefully, the forums will be fixed very soon. I tend to only talk to him on Skype or email, I just assume when he's on Mara that he's getting swamped with messages and stuff to do. Like this, for example. He's probably up to his ears in people going hysterical over having no forums.
